ABOUT LILO & CO

Inspiration behind Lilo & Co.

Not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined myself loving nothing more than sitting down each day to sew for all the beautiful dachshund that bless this world with their special, larger than life personalities. I had no clue when my daughter mentioned how she would love to get a mini dachshund it would inspire the creation of Lilo & Co, Dachshund Threads.

After researching I found out they tend to bark a lot, have a mind of their own and can be difficult to train, especially toilet training. I have to be completely honest I tried talking her out of it, being a farm girl and growing up around dogs I knew they aren’t all created equal so I was cautious around what would be the best type of dog for her first.

After a year she still wanted a mini dachshund so I agreed to her bringing one into the family, OMG it was the best thing we ever did! We as a family have fallen in love with the breed and of course one wasn’t enough so my husband and I got one of our own to love.

In their first winter with us I noticed they didn’t want to come out from under their blankets and really struggled with the cold. We tried buying them jumpers from local stores but they would slide right out of them, due to the collars being too large or other jumpers looked like midriffs. I was sewing dance costumes one morning, my business before COVID cancelled a lot of dance competitions and decided to try to make some pyjamas for Lili and Lola.

I’m use to using only the best for my dance costumes so of course when I went looking for fabric they had to have the best too. I loved designing and making them their little jumpers so much that I decided to create Lilo & Co for other long dog owners who also found it difficult to find jumpers that actually fit.

Lilo & Co is named after our much loved and super spoilt girls Lili and Lola (Lilo). It feels wonderful to be able to support other dachshund lovers to warm their babies and keep them cozy in specifically designed jumpers. In return I am blessed to be able to stay home with our two girls which helps Lili a lot as she gets separation anxiety, another common dachshund trait.

We never can know what life has in store for us but following you heart often will uncover many blessings. I am definitely grateful for the opportunities that creating Lilo & Co has brought into my life and look forward to providing a services that allows dachshund lovers to give back to their little ones who bring so much joy and love into their lives.

About Lilo & Co. Products

We are proud to say that at Lilo and Co all our products are produced in Perth, Western Australia and materials used are also all brought in Australia. Most companies in the pet apparel industry, even a lot that advertise they are an Australian based business still manufacture or purchase goods to sell from other countries such as China, India, Indonesian ect.

To have a larger fully Australia based and made business does increase the cost of products to the customer. However we wanted to offer Australia made at an affordable cost, so because we are a small, home based business we are able to keep our prices down. We also wanted to offer a personalised service, this is why we have chosen to hand make in small batches which also supports slow fashion.

We are always looking to be more environmentally friendly, the fabric industry is getting better in this area but is often still limited, this will not stop us from being committed to continuing to look for more organic, eco friendly options to reduce our environmental footprint.

How Lilo & Co Give Back

10% of our profits each year are donated quarterly to different Animal Welfare Charities within Australia.
During this Winter 2021 we are giving back to RSPCA’s winter appeal, so all your purchases help us to help dogs in shelters keep warmer.
